Producer Background
Ethiopia has an abundance of varied flavour profiles, from strawberry fruit, to mango, passion fruit and pineapple, depending on the process and region.
Home to the famous “Kaldi”, the goat herder who supposedly first discovered coffee’s ‘caffeinated’ qualities. Many coffee species are indigenous to Ethiopia, with Heirloom now the most common. Coffee beans are grown in a number of regional zones to the west and south of the capital Addis Ababa, most famously Sidamo and Yirgacheffe.
These ancient Ethiopian Arabica varieties of coffee beans from the famous Yirgacheffe region are renowned for their bright citrus acidity and floral fragrance. They are considered to be some of the finest coffee beans to be produced globally.
Coffee Region
Yirgacheffe is one of the districts in the Southern region of Ethiopia. Coffee from this region is commonly referred to as one of the oldest coffee beans to be grown worldwide, dating back many centuries. The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee is light-bodied coffee with light floral and berry notes at the outset, giving it a delightful sweetness. This is a truly unique coffee with subtle character, but to truly appreciate this delicious coffee, it is best-drunk black.
Cupping Notes
Fruity and acidic with notes of blackcurrant and rhubarb with a Low body and medium sweetness.
